Provincial Heritage Organization Operating Grant

Description

This ministry provides annual operating support to the 12 Ontario Provincial Heritage Organizations listed below. They are umbrella organizations for the major types of heritage activities across the province, representing disciplines such as archaeology, genealogy, architecture, history, archives, and museums. The programs and services they deliver promote wide public access to Ontario's heritage and encourage public participation in heritage conservation activities. The Provincial Heritage Organization operating grant is a non-statutory program.

Deadline

Deadline for submission of applications is June 30, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible Provincial Heritage Organizations (PHO) are organizations that:

  • Offer heritage programs and services to members and to the general public.
  • Are registered non-profit organizations or charities.
  • Operate on a year-round basis.
  • Operate provincially in scope.

The PHO operating grant supports provincial heritage organizations to address six core objectives:

1. Promote public appreciation of Ontario’s heritage.

2. Provide opportunities for individuals and communities to participate in heritage conservation/preservation.

3. Educate professionals and volunteers in heritage conservation/preservation.

4. Gather and share information and research on Ontario’s heritage.

5. Encourage private sector stewardship of heritage.

6. Keep members/stakeholders current on heritage sector changes and support them in addressing changes and issues.

Demonstration of eligibility according to the criteria above does not entitle organizations to funding. Currently, the program limits applications to the previous year’s recipients due to a limited funding envelope.
