New Relationship Fund

Description

The New Relationship Fund (NRF) is an Ontario government program designed to assist Aboriginal communities and organizations to participate in meaningful consultation and engagement with the government of Ontario, municipal governments in Ontario, and industry. The Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs administers the Fund.

The Core component funding is available to First Nations and Métis communities to assist them in building fundamental consultation and engagement capacity so that they can better engage with government and industry on lands and resources matters.

The Enhanced component is to fund specific projects by First Nations and Métis communities and Aboriginal organizations to build their capacity over and above core consultation capacity.

The objectives of the New Relationship Fund are to:

  • Assist First Nations and Métis communities and Aboriginal organizations in building consultation and engagement capacity, as well as organizational capacity and expertise related to lands and resources matters to better engage with the government of Ontario, municipal governments in Ontario and industry.
  • Create jobs for First Nations and Métis communities and Aboriginal organizations through building capacity to engage in economic development.
  • Assist in developing and improving relationships and partnerships between the Government of Ontario, municipal governments in Ontario, industry, First Nations, Métis communities and Aboriginal organizations; and
  • Assist in improving the quality of life and closing the socio-economic gap between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in Ontario.

Eligibility Requirements

First Nation and Métis communities can apply to both the Core and Enhanced components. Aboriginal organizations can apply for the Enhanced component. First Nation and Métis communities and Aboriginal organizations can apply as single applicants or partner with other communities and organizations to apply as joint applicants
