Electric School Bus Pilot Program

The Electric School Bus (ESB) Pilot Program is a one-year pilot launching during the 2017 – 2018 school year. The Pilot will help determine if ESBs can operate reliably and cost effectively across Ontario in all weather conditions. It will consider barriers to the adoption of ESBs by school bus operator companies, as well as the potential of ESBs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and diesel pollution from student transportation.

School bus operators providing student transportation services in Ontario may apply to participate in the Pilot. Successful applicants will receive funds for the purchase of an ESB and the purchase and installation of associated charging infrastructure.

The deadline for submission of applications has passed. Thank you for your interest.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for funding under the ESB Pilot, an eligible applicant must be a school bus operator that provides public or private school student transportation in Ontario.

Ontario-based public transit agencies providing student transportation services are not eligible.

Important program clarification:

A key criterion in the evaluation of applications is for the proposed electric school bus to begin active service no later than April 16, 2018. Applications with later active service dates will only be considered if there are insufficient acceptable applications able to begin service by the April date.

Please see the Program Guide for further information on eligibility, requirements and how to apply.
