Career Ready Fund’s Auto Stream 2019-20

Important Notice: Change in Submission Deadline

The deadline to submit applications has been extended for all applicants. Applications are now due at noon (12:00 p.m.) on Friday, February 28, 2020.

If you have any questions about this change, please contact CareerReadyFund@ontario.ca

In support of Ontario’s Driving Prosperity auto sector strategy, the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development is launching this call for proposals to increase both the quantity and quality of experiential learning opportunities available to postsecondary students, recent graduates and apprentices in Ontario’s automotive manufacturing and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Experiential learning is a hands-on learning model where people learn by doing. By supporting experiential learning, this program helps participants to launch their future careers in the automotive and advanced manufacturing sectors and helps employers in these sectors to build their talent pipeline.

The first round of the Career Ready Fund’s Auto Stream launched in February 2019 with $5 million in funding through a targeted call for proposals and supports the creation of new experiential learning placements in the automotive manufacturing sector.

This second round of the Career Ready Fund’s Auto Stream is a $14 million investment and expands eligibility for the work placement incentive to include advanced manufacturing employers, as well as those in auto manufacturing.

Interested applicants are encouraged to register with Transfer Payment Ontario as early as possible. The application form is only available once you have registered. Please note that the registration process may take a few days so it is advisable to register with Transfer Payment Ontario early in order to leave sufficient time to access the form and familiarize yourself with the submission requirements well in advance of the application deadline.

Please note a new extended deadline below:

Noon (12:00 p.m.) on February 28, 2020

Eligibility Requirements

The ministry is requesting proposals that demonstrate at least one partnership within the auto and advanced manufacturing sectors. A partnership is a current or new relationship with a postsecondary institution, employer, or other organization that helps to create or enhance work placements for eligible participants.

o Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in the auto sector

o Manufacturers in the automotive supply chain to OEMs with at least 50 per cent of their company’s total sales revenue coming from the automotive supply sector

• Industry/sector associations of the auto manufacturing and advanced manufacturing sectors in Ontario

• Publicly-assisted postsecondary institution in Ontario

• Intermediaries and other not-for-profit organizations

Funding will provide incentives to employers of up to $3,000 per work placement opportunity per participant, or up to $5,000 for a work placement for a participant with one or more disabilities.

Applicants are required to commit to at least 200 work placements per project.

A work placement for a participant must be a minimum period of 10 weeks and could last up to four months. Any additional and consecutive four-month period(s) after the initial four-month placement is considered a separate work placement.

Work placements must also comply with the Experiential Learning Checklist (please see the appendix section in the application guidelines).
